Aside from being easy to set up, we were impressed by the effect itself. There’s a real sense of depth disappearing into the screen, and although the glasses do make everything seem a lot darker, they didn’t make things annoyingly dim, or introduce flicker.

On our iTunes encoding test, in which we convert 11 standard MP3 files to AAC format, the dm4t retook the lead by a small margin, finishing the task in 3 minutes and 9 seconds; the ID49C08u was right behind it, and the HP(HP DV5 Battery) dv5t took a tad longer. In daily usage I found that the MacBook was a joy to use. The long BTP-63D1 Battery life and bright display makes it particularly nice when working at a coffee shop in some other brightly lit environment. The keyboard is particularly worthy of praise. I was able to use it for several hours straight without feeling as if my fingers were becoming fatigued. I found the performance of the MacBook to be notable when compared to a Core 2 Duo CULV laptop like the Acer Timeline. The faster processor results in an experience that feels subjectively quicker.

The last piece of review Apple equipment I had with me on Road Trip 2010 was a 13-inch MacBook Pro. With a 2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor and 4 GB of RAM, it was a very good road computer. My work computer is a three-year-old 15-inch MacBook Pro(MacBook Pro 15″ Batteries), so adjusting to the smaller display took a bit, but once I did, I learned to love its bright glossy screen.

My iPad has become my new do-all portable machine. The keyboard is also improved from the first phone, but is still awful. The physical keyboard may satisfy some users used to featurephones, but anybody who’s used a proper phone keyboard like you’ll find from RIM’s BlackBerry offerings will find the keyboard almost impossible to use.

Granted, most people who purchase a luxury bamboo-covered notebook probably won’t perform upgrades. Still, if you want to add more RAM (the U33JC can be upgraded to 8GB) or a new hard drive or SSD, all you have to do is remove two screws to make it happen.
